Is a Data Center Coming

About

Why this exists

Data centers are being planned faster than the people next to them find out. Filings go in under a code name, the agenda posts on a Friday, the vote is Tuesday, and the first most neighbors hear of it is the clearing crew. The rate case that pays for the new power plant is a docket number nobody reads. We wanted a place where you type your address and get a straight answer about what is on the record near you, what it means for you, and when you still have a say.

Operating data centers are tracked nationwide. The planning filings, the rezonings and permits that decide what gets built next, are researched county by county; that coverage started in Georgia, where we live, and now runs across the biggest data center states, expanding as we go. The coverage page keeps the honest list.

What we are not

We are not for or against data centers, and we are not affiliated with any utility, developer, county or advocacy group. We do not sell the alert list. The site is paid for by the battery and solar quote requests some readers choose to make from the results page; those go to installers who work in the area and nowhere else. If you would rather we did not exist, the records are all public and we link every one.
