Is a Data Center Coming? (we, us) runs isadatacentercoming.com. This page explains what we collect when you use the site, why, and how to have it deleted.
What we collect
When you search an address, we store the text you typed, the coordinates and county/state it resolved to, how many tracked projects were within 25 miles, a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself), and the referring page. We do this for every search, whether or not you sign up for anything.
When you sign up for an alert, we store the email address, the query and location it is centered on, the radius, a confirm token and an unsubscribe token, and a hashed IP. Georgia counties currently confirm alerts immediately because we have no outbound mail server in every environment; where email is configured, we send a confirmation link before the first alert goes out.
When you request battery or solar quotes, we store your name, email, phone, ZIP code, the address you searched (if any), your stated monthly bill, homeowner status and interest, the exact consent text you agreed to and the time you agreed to it, a hashed IP, and your browser's user agent string. This is the record a partner or regulator can ask us to produce to prove you asked to be contacted.
Why we collect it
Search logs let us measure distance and answer your question; in aggregate they tell us which counties and searches to research next. Alert signups exist to send you the email you asked for and nothing else. Lead details exist to route your quote request to an installer and to prove consent for that contact.
Who we share it with
We share lead details (quote requests) with Is a Data Center Coming?'s installer partners, and only for the purpose of following up on that request, as described in the consent text you agreed to on the form. We do not sell or share the alert subscriber list with anyone, for any purpose, including advertising.
We use a small number of service providers to run the site: an SMTP provider to send alert and quote emails, the US Census Bureau geocoder and OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn addresses into coordinates, OpenStreetMap for the map tiles themselves, Google Fonts to serve the typefaces, and, if enabled, Google Analytics to measure traffic. Your search text is sent to whichever geocoder resolves it; it is not sent to Google Analytics or Google Fonts, which only see the fact of a page view and a font request.
Retention
Search logs, geocoding results and lead records are kept as long as we operate the site, since they are how we measure coverage and prove consent. Alert subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. If you ask us to delete your data we will remove your email, name, phone and address from our database; we may keep an anonymized record that a search or lead occurred for traffic counting.
Unsubscribe and deletion
Every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and the confirmation and unsubscribe pages link back to it. To unsubscribe from alerts, stop receiving quote-request follow-ups, or request full deletion of your data, email [email protected] from the address on file. We will confirm once it is done.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page.
