Maryland based developer Stonebridge won a 20 year development agreement from the City of Fort Meade in Polk County for a data center campus near U.S. Highway 17 on about 1,330 acres, with an initial phase of 1.9 million square feet and potential expansion to 4.4 million square feet. The Fort Meade Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval on April 8, 2026 and the City Commission gave final approval on April 14, 2026, despite about 500 residents signing a petition citing water and power concerns. The state has since raised its own questions about the city's utility capacity to support the project.
