Minneapolis based developer Oppidan explored a roughly 4 million square foot data center campus in North Mankato, more than twice the floor area of the Minnesota Vikings stadium, and had the city sign a non disclosure agreement about the project's details. Oppidan withdrew before filing a formal application, citing concerns that permitting backup diesel generators would take too long. The city council has since approved a one year moratorium on new data center applications while it studies the issue further.
