Geronimo Power announced plans in March 2026 for a hyperscale data park southwest of La Russell in eastern Jasper County, sized at about 450 megawatts, paired with a proposed 2,000 acre solar farm and battery storage spanning Jasper and Lawrence counties. Jasper County has no zoning ordinance in its unincorporated areas, so there is no formal permitting process the project must clear. Rural residents formed a petition and a Facebook opposition group that grew to nearly 700 members within a week, and about 50 people rallied outside Sarcoxie City Hall in May 2026.
