Duke Energy Carolinas North Carolina rate case and large load tariff: Duke Energy Carolinas originally asked North Carolina regulators for an 18 percent residential rate increase over two years, then lowered its request to about 11.6 percent after pushback. Hearings ran in July 2026 and a settlement was reached soon after, but the North Carolina Utilities Commission still needs to issue a final order, with a decision deadline around September 20, 2026. Commissioners have pressed Duke on how much of its 100 billion dollar spending plan through 2035 is being driven by data centers, which make up a large majority of Duke's large load request queue.
