Documents shared at a private meeting of a Nebraska public power district describe a proposed data center in southeastern Nebraska that would use between 1,000 and 3,000 megawatts, more than three times Lincoln's summer peak demand, powered by a combined cycle natural gas plant that private energy developer Tenaska would build with pipeline company Tallgrass Energy, with Google named as the likely end user. Since December 2025, Tenaska has optioned land in Gage, Lancaster, Otoe, and Cass counties, including at least 1,509 acres in Gage County. Gage, Otoe, and other affected counties have since passed moratoriums on new data center applications while officials study the proposal.
