New York based Fortitude Mining is nearing completion on a data center just north of the JBS meatpacking plant in Grand Island, after the city's utilities department issued a request for proposals in June 2025 with strict conditions. The facility will not use water for cooling, is fully interruptible so it can be curtailed during grid stress, sits inside a sound dissipating enclosure, and is paying the full cost of its own infrastructure. Fortitude will lease the city owned land for 18,000 dollars a year with a 3 percent annual increase.
