An undisclosed applicant sought to rezone 20 acres of exclusive farm use land near Christmas Valley in Lake County for a cryptocurrency mining data center, arguing the farm zoning had been applied in error. Nearly two dozen Christmas Valley residents and farmers turned out to a January 2025 county hearing in Lakeview to oppose the project, citing groundwater and power use, noise, and harm to the area's dark night skies, and Central Oregon LandWatch argued industrial zoned land was available elsewhere. Only three of seven Lake County Planning Commissioners voted in favor, and the applicant withdrew the proposal.
