Apple Waukee Data Center

Apple. Operating.

Apple's first data center building on its 2,000 acre Waukee campus opened in 2024, seven years after the company first announced the 1.3 billion dollar project in 2017. The 400,000 square foot building runs on renewable energy and serves North American users of iCloud, Siri and the App Store. Apple has room to add up to five more buildings on the site, though no additional construction has been formally announced.

What it would mean nearby

MidAmerican Energy is asking the commission for a 5.2% residential increase (MidAmerican Energy natural gas rate increase (docket RPU-2026-0001)). On a $58 monthly bill that is about $3 to $5 a month. This case does not set rates directly, but the new solar plant it approves will eventually be paid for through customer rates, and MidAmerican has said data center growth is a major reason it is needed.
