Apricus Energy Partners, a small company founded in Arizona in 2023 with fewer than 11 employees, is seeking up to 1,000 megawatts of power for a proposed 514 acre data center campus at 11703 West Medical Lake Highway on Spokane County's West Plains, though a regional utility study found only about 50 megawatts would likely be available by 2030 and 650 by 2033. County officials had discussed the project with the developer for more than a year with little public disclosure, drawing outcry once residents learned of it, and the company's only comparable past project, at a California airport, was abandoned. Spokane County had no formal application on file as of the most recent reporting and adopted a four month, county wide data center permitting pause in August 2026 partly in response to the controversy.
