Project Red Clay (Cloverleaf Infrastructure)
Cloverleaf Infrastructure. Approved, 1500 MW
Houston-based Cloverleaf Infrastructure is planning Project Red Clay, a roughly 1.5 gigawatt data center on about 800 acres of farmland at the junction of US Highway 80 and Alabama Highway 21 near Burkville in Lowndes County, which would be about four times the size of Meta's existing data center in nearby Montgomery County. On October 13, 2026 the Lowndes County Commission voted 3-2, without the advance public notice originally scheduled, to approve a development agreement and roughly 1.15 billion dollar, 20 year county and state tax abatement package for the project, over objections from residents, the NAACP, and environmental advocates about transparency and the undisclosed end user. The developer projects about 1,000 construction jobs, 225 permanent jobs, and construction as early as 2027, with water for the site drawn from the Pintlala Water System.

What it would mean nearby
The cooling design has not been reported. If it uses evaporative cooling, a 1500 MW facility would draw roughly 4.8 million to 17.1 million gallons of water a day, about what 54,700 households use.
