CRG, the development arm of Clayco, proposed a 1 billion dollar data center called Project Cumulus with up to five buildings and 1.5 million square feet on 440 acres off Highway 370 in St. Charles. Later reporting linked the project to Google. After hundreds of residents raised concerns about water use, including a Missouri Department of Conservation estimate of 5 million gallons a day discharged into Dardenne Creek, CRG pulled the project from the council agenda. The city then adopted a one year moratorium and has since moved toward a permanent ban on data centers.
