Microsoft Corporation. Approved. 99 MW.

Microsoft's San Jose Data Center is a 396,914 square foot facility on 64.5 acres near Alviso, built around 224 small renewable natural gas generators plus diesel backup and an onsite substation, with a maximum electrical draw of about 99 megawatts. The California Energy Commission certified the project's environmental review and granted it a small power plant exemption in 2022, and the city of San Jose approved an addendum covering supporting road and utility work in April 2025. The project is expected to bring about 100 permanent jobs.

What it would mean nearby

The cooling design has not been reported. If it uses evaporative cooling, a 99 MW facility would draw roughly 314,000 to 1.1 million gallons of water a day, about what 3,600 households use.
