Rocklocker Data Center Proposal (Kalkaska County)

Rocklocker. Withdrawn.

A company called Rocklocker proposed a data center on about 1,440 acres of state owned land near Island Lake and South River roads in Kalkaska County, promising more than 40 million dollars a year in tax revenue. The Department of Natural Resources denied the company's request to buy the land in July 2025, citing missing paperwork and conservation concerns, and Rocklocker withdrew its proposal in November 2025 after strong local opposition and anonymous threats against its founder. No new proposal has been filed for the site.
