Sabey Data Centers broke ground in July 2026 on a 714,540 square foot, 60 acre campus on Wanapa Road in Umatilla, part of what the industry calls the Columbia River Cloud Corridor of hydropower fed data centers. The site is designed to support more than 150 megawatts across two data halls, the first targeted to open in April 2028, and Sabey says it will use a closed loop cooling system that uses significantly less water than typical designs. Local officials and residents gathered for the July groundbreaking, with company executives acknowledging growing public unease about the pace of AI driven data center growth in the region.
