Serverfarm Covington Data Center
Serverfarm. Under construction
California based Serverfarm is converting an existing 498,960 square foot warehouse on a 97 acre site at 10835 Hazelbrand Road into a data center, after the Covington City Council voted 5-1 in January 2025 to annex the parcel out of unincorporated Newton County, which does not allow data centers outside Stanton Springs. Houston based VoltaGrid is building an on-site natural gas power plant of up to about 90 megawatts to run the facility on a 24/7 baseload basis until Georgia Power can build a permanent substation, and both companies began installing generators and other equipment before their state air permits were issued. Georgia's Environmental Protection Division fined Serverfarm 31,000 dollars and VoltaGrid 11,500 dollars in consent orders reported October 6-8, 2026, and construction is continuing under stricter emissions limits and a single combined permit covering the power plant and data center as one emissions source.

What it would mean nearby
Oglethorpe Power, which generates most of the electricity Georgia's EMCs sell, is adding natural gas plants it ties to data center and industrial load. EMC rates are set by each cooperative's board, not the Public Service Commission, so watch your EMC's rate notices.
