Western Hospitality Partners sought to buy 321 acres of the Lutticken Property, a planned 1,000 acre mixed use development between Highway 98 and Sheridan Road in Pekin, for a data center reported at over 1 billion dollars. After Mayor Mary Burress said in March 2026 the city would not move forward, citing resident concerns about noise and electricity prices, the developer formally terminated the agreement on May 5, 2026 and asked for its deposit back. An opposition Facebook group, Tazewell County Data Center Opposition, grew past 6,200 members.
