Wildflower, through its WF Industrial subsidiary, wants to convert three empty warehouses on a 71 acre property near the Long Island Expressway's north service road in Yaphank into a 1 billion dollar, 549,000 square foot, 176 megawatt data center called the Brookhaven Digital Infrastructure Facility. The project is now on hold under two separate moratoriums, an 18 month freeze the Brookhaven Town Board adopted running through January 2028 and New York Governor Kathy Hochul's July 14, 2026 statewide executive order freezing permits for data centers of 50 megawatts or more. The developer argues the existing warehouse shell would let it build with minimal added impact, but residents near the site, about 1,000 feet from a neighborhood, have raised concerns about electricity, water, and noise.
