Data centers in Benton County

Zero carbon fertilizer company Atlas Agro wants to build five data center buildings of about 500,000 square feet each, a 500 million dollar project, on 275 acres at 2100 Horn Rapids Road next to its planned 1.5 billion dollar Richland fertilizer plant in the Northwest Advanced Clean Energy Park. The Richland City Council unanimously approved a nonrefundable 250,000 dollar option agreement with Atlas Agro on December 2, 2025, giving the city time to evaluate a roughly 24 million dollar land sale before a final purchase is required. Atlas Agro says it would supply its own power through a new Bonneville Power Administration connection and hopes to start construction in 2027.

Real estate developer Trammell Crow has spent about a year studying the feasibility of a large data center campus on part of the roughly 7,600 acre Lewis and Clark Ranch owned by Frank Tiegs LLC in West Richland, with talk of a deal covering as much as 1,000 acres next to an existing neighborhood. No formal application has been filed with the city, which would trigger a State Environmental Policy Act review before any approval, and officials estimate it could be up to a year before one is submitted. Residents have raised concerns about property values and resource use, while a cost recovery agreement with Benton Rural Electric Association has been discussed for power.
