Under construction 300 MW Michigan City

Google is redeveloping the former 70 acre Federal-Mogul (ANCO) windshield wiper plant at 402 Royal Road in Michigan City into an 832 million dollar, roughly 400,000 square foot, 300 megawatt data center known as Project Maize, formally acquiring the site in April 2026 after an effort originally started by Phoenix Investors. Construction is underway and expected to run through about 2030, supporting about 30 permanent jobs and over 500 construction jobs, with Google committing 26.1 million dollars in economic benefits to the city including a 1 million dollar payment to the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City. The Michigan City Council has separately been debating a data center moratorium running until July 31, 2028 that explicitly excludes both phases of this project.
