Entergy Louisiana's second Meta gas plant expansion Entergy Louisiana
Entergy Louisiana asked regulators to approve a much larger second phase for Meta's Richland Parish data center: seven additional gas combined cycle power plants totaling more than 5,200 megawatts, plus roughly 240 miles of new transmission lines. On August 12, 2026 the Louisiana Public Service Commission voted 3-1 to reject an administrative law judge's order that would have forced Meta to disclose the underlying data behind its investment and job creation projections, so consumer groups must proceed without that data in challenging the buildout; a final commission decision is not scheduled until December 16, 2026.
Entergy Louisiana gas plants for Meta's Richland Parish data center Entergy Louisiana
To power Meta's new AI data center campus in Richland Parish, Entergy Louisiana asked the Louisiana Public Service Commission to approve three new gas fired power plants plus supporting transmission. The commission approved a settlement on August 29, 2025. Entergy says Meta's own payments will save other Louisiana customers billions of dollars over 20 years, but consumer and environmental groups warned the deal leaves gaps, since the gas plants have an expected 30 year life and if Meta ever scales back or leaves early, ratepayers could still be on the hook for paying off the plants.
