Amazon Web Services revealed plans in April 2026 to build the Calvert Technology Center, a set of seven data center buildings across three campuses totaling about 2.4 million square feet and up to 500 megawatts, next to the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Lusby, and submitted a Conceptual Site Development Plan application in May 2026. After voters in the June 23, 2026 primary ousted all three sitting county commissioners who had opposed a pause on data center development, Amazon formally withdrew its Calvert Technology Center application, with Calvert County government announcing the withdrawal on August 4, 2026.
