300 West Adams Street Data Center Conversion

A plan to convert part of a landmark office building at 300 West Adams Street in the Chicago Loop into a data center won City Council committee approval, one of the projects cited as Chicago works out how to regulate data centers within city limits. Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order on August 11, 2026 creating new data center review steps and a task force, and separately asked the City Council to consider a temporary citywide moratorium while rules are drafted.
