Amazon bought about 400 acres from the city of Arlington for 10 million dollars and is buying another 30 acres from the Port of Arlington for 3 million dollars, planning a data center campus in the small Columbia River city that could rival Amazon's existing operations in Morrow and Umatilla counties. Gilliam County does not qualify for Oregon's enterprise zone tax break program because its income and employment numbers are too healthy, so officials are instead negotiating under the state's Strategic Investment Program. As of the most recent reporting, Amazon had not yet secured building permits or a finalized electricity supply agreement with PacifiCorp.
