Core Scientific Dalton 4
Core Scientific. Under construction. 170 MW.
The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 on March 10-11, 2025 to rezone about 173 acres on Old Tilton Road, southwest of Dalton, from agricultural and rural residential to heavy manufacturing for Core Scientific's Dalton 4 AI data center, a 170 megawatt facility that is expected to buy about 5 million dollars a month in electricity from Dalton Utilities. Some sources give a slightly smaller figure of 168 acres. As of a June 2026 court filing tied to a 15.2 billion dollar bond validation, the project was listed as under construction, with an original target opening around mid to late 2026. The rezoning drew significant opposition from area residents.

What it would mean nearby
The cooling design has not been reported. If it uses evaporative cooling, a 170 MW facility would draw roughly 539,000 to 1.9 million gallons of water a day, about what 6,200 households use.
MEAG Power supplies the city owned utilities and expects data center load on its system to roughly double within about five years. City utility rates are set by each city, not the Public Service Commission.
