Google has begun construction on Project Mica, a second Kansas City area data center campus on a 500 acre site at the northeast corner of Interstate 435 and Highway 169 in Clay County, planned for five buildings totaling about 1.56 million square feet and up to 700 megawatts. Google confirmed the project in February 2026 as a follow up to its nearby first campus, Project Shale, in the Hunt Midwest Business Center. The Kansas City area has become one of Google's largest US data center clusters, alongside Meta's operating Northland campus about a mile to the northwest.
