Landowners in Vevay Township, next to the city of Mason, are seeking to annex about 400 acres near Columbia and College roads into Mason so a data center project of at least 500 million dollars can connect to city utilities. Vevay Township's board declined to negotiate a tax revenue sharing deal in June 2026, so the landowners asked the state's Boundary Commission to approve annexation instead, and on October 7, 2026 the commission voted unanimously that the annexation paperwork is legally sufficient, opening a public comment period ahead of a hearing to be scheduled later. The company that would actually build and run the data center has not been publicly identified.
