Meta-BlackRock El Paso Data Center Campus

Meta Platforms (filed as Meta Platforms / BlackRock). Under construction. 1000 MW.

Meta and BlackRock announced a venture, about 14 billion dollars in development cost, to build and own a 1 gigawatt data center campus in El Paso, with BlackRock managed funds taking an 80 percent stake and Meta 20 percent. Meta has committed 10 billion dollars to the campus, which is expected to create about 300 permanent jobs and start operating in 2028, with power partly from 813 modular gas generators planned online by 2027; an earlier plan to run the site on new natural gas power drew community concern.

What it would mean nearby

The cooling design has not been reported. If it uses evaporative cooling, a 1000 MW facility would draw roughly 3.2 million to 11.4 million gallons of water a day, about what 36,500 households use.
