Google's 600 million dollar data center in Clarksville broke ground in February 2018 and opened in November 2019, with power matched through a 413 MW renewable energy deal with TVA. An established facility rather than part of the current boom.

TVA says the goal of a separate data center rate class is to stop the roughly 10 million residential customers across its territory from subsidizing the grid buildout data centers require.
TVA is a federal agency, not a state regulated utility, so its own board sets rates rather than a public service commission. Data centers already make up roughly 18 to 20 percent of TVA's industrial power load and that demand could double by 2030, so TVA is considering pulling data centers out of the standard industrial rate class and into their own category, possibly with a required upfront capacity payment. TVA also raised its overall wholesale rate by 4.5 percent effective October 2025, which flows through to local power companies like MLGW. The TVA board is expected to take up the data center rate proposal at its quarterly board meeting.
