In Pinal County
Pinal County supervisors unanimously approved a land-use amendment for a roughly 400-acre Energy Generation and Technology Campus near State Route 347 and Louis Johnson Drive south of the city of Maricopa, developed by Tempe-based W Holdings. The roughly 10 billion dollar project pairs a data center with a battery energy storage system and a natural gas power plant, and is projected to use about 500 acre-feet of water a year, less than the housing or farming uses previously approved for the same land.
Vermaland's La Osa project would put a data center and power complex across 3,385 acres south of Eloy along the Greene Canal and Santa Cruz Wash, between Phoenix and Tucson. After sustained resident opposition, the developer cut the plan from 59 buildings and up to 3 gigawatts down to about 11 buildings capped at 1 gigawatt. The Pinal County Board of Supervisors is set to reconsider the rezoning and site plan on August 26, 2026.
