Monarch Energy is finalizing a roughly 12 billion dollar, 1,400 megawatt phased data center on about 1,100 acres near Chicago Rockford International Airport, projected to bring 200 high tech jobs and start operating around 2028. A TIF incentive advisory panel recommended approval in March 2026 and the agreement was signed in June 2026, but on July 1, 2026 Governor Pritzker directed the state to stop processing new data center incentive agreements, adding uncertainty to the project's state tax breaks.
