DataBank wants to add a roughly 78,000 square foot second phase to its Orangeburg hyperscale data center campus, on the shore of Lake Tappan, a reservoir that supplies drinking water to parts of the lower Hudson Valley and North Jersey. The Orangetown Planning Board voted unanimously to require a full environmental impact statement before it will consider the expansion, effectively delaying the project indefinitely. Orangetown separately passed a townwide data center moratorium in 2026 but exempted this DataBank campus because it was already in the approval pipeline; residents have raised concerns about reservoir contamination, noise, air pollution, and wetland damage.
