Thor Acquisition, an affiliate of New York based Thor Equities, filed a Development of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs on September 4, 2026 for a data center project near Kingston in Bartow County, off Highway 411 near the Hyundai-SK battery plant on State Route 293 about 2 miles east of Kingston. The site totals about 561 acres, with about 261 acres planned for actual data center development, roughly 150 megawatts of capacity, and an estimated 1 billion dollars in investment; the developer says the facility would use a closed loop water system and that no client has yet signed a contract to occupy it. The Kingston Unified Zoning Board voted 2-1 to recommend a special use permit after a town hall where neighbors raised water and land use concerns, and the Kingston City Council was scheduled to vote on final approval on November 2, 2026.
