Klever Technology Center Data Center (Inkster)
Klever Technology Center LLC. Denied
Developer Robert Kato of Klever Technology Center LLC proposed converting a vacant 40,000 square foot warehouse at 27181 Southern Street in Inkster into a data center, citing about 75 million dollars in facility improvements plus up to 250 million dollars of server equipment and 90 to 100 jobs. The Planning Commission had recommended conditional approval, but after residents packed Inkster City Hall on October 19, 2026 to raise concerns about round the clock noise, generator emissions, and light pollution at a site about 100 feet from homes, no council member made a motion to approve the permit on October 20, 2026, effectively killing it. Kato said he will not appeal and does not plan to pursue a data center at that location, telling reporters the project will instead proceed in a neighboring municipality.

What it would mean nearby
DTE Electric is asking the commission for a 9.7% residential increase (2027 electric rate case (docket U-22046)). On a $160 monthly bill that is about $13 to $18 a month. 2026 electric distribution rate case (docket U-21860) raised residential rates 4.1% from March 2026: about $6 to $8 a month on a $160 bill. The order is meant to keep this one data center's power costs off the bills of regular DTE residential customers, but critics argue the fast, largely ex parte approval process did not fully test that promise.
