xAI affiliate MZX Tech bought a former Duke Energy plant site in Southaven, across the state line from the Memphis data centers, and rapidly added gas turbines to power them. Mississippi approved a permit for 41 permanent turbines in March 2026 and the company agreed in July to remove temporary turbines by July 2027. An NAACP lawsuit over unpermitted turbines has a preliminary injunction hearing on August 24, 2026.
