Organizers, including both the local Republican and Democratic party chairs, said sources bound by nondisclosure agreements linked Meta to land near Mine Lake outside Monticello in Jasper County as a possible hyperscale data center site; Meta has not been confirmed on any public filing. The City of Monticello sought to annex three parcels there, a step organizers said was tied to the project, but the city council postponed the annexation vote in July 2026 after resident opposition over water and transparency, and Jasper County commissioners separately voted to block the annexation.
