Hillwood and PowerHouse Data Centers won an 8 to 1 Joliet City Council vote on March 20, 2026 to annex 795 acres near Rowell and Bernhard roads for a 20 billion dollar, four sub-campus data center park with up to 1.8 gigawatts of capacity. Construction is planned to begin in early 2027, and Joliet Residents For Responsible Growth filed a lawsuit in May 2026 challenging the rezoning as unconstitutional.
Lockport officials have begun workshop level discussions about whether city owned land at the old Chevron property, part of the Star Innovation District, could be used for a future data center. No developer or formal proposal has been named publicly and the idea remains an early, city led evaluation rather than a filed project.

Under an Illinois law that lets ComEd true up its grid plan spending every year, the utility asked to recover 268.5 million dollars in a reconciliation case. The Illinois Commerce Commission approved 243.1 million dollars on December 18, 2025, cutting about 25.4 million dollars including costs tied to a mismanaged customer billing system rollout. Citizens Utility Board estimated the approved amount adds about 3.10 dollars a month to a typical residential bill starting in 2026.
