Nebius broke ground on a 400 acre, up to ten building data center campus at the Eastgate Commerce Center in Independence, its first gigawatt scale US project, after the Independence City Council approved the deal 5 to 2 under Missouri's Chapter 100 tax abatement program. The roughly 2.25 million square foot campus uses closed loop cooling and needs at least 800 megawatts, to be supplied by a new, privately financed plant that Independence Power and Light is building at the former Blue Valley Power Plant site. The city projects tens of millions of dollars a year in new revenue.
