Edged Energy is seeking to rezone farmland in Etna Township, near the Violet Township and Fairfield County line, for a data center as part of a larger mixed use development. The application was originally filed in January 2026, withdrawn in April 2026, and refiled in June 2026; a Licking County Planning Commission meeting on the rezoning has been postponed three times, most recently from September 28, 2026, with the next expected date of October 26, 2026 for a non-binding county recommendation. Nearby residents, including some in neighboring Violet Township, have raised property value, noise, and light pollution concerns.

Edged opened a 24 megawatt, 206,000 square foot data center at 6526 New Albany Road East in New Albany. It is part of a wider cluster of hyperscale campuses built along the New Albany corridor.
Vantage Data Centers operates a campus in New Albany, part of the dense cluster of hyperscale operators (alongside Meta, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Edged, CyrusOne and EdgeConneX) that has made the New Albany corridor one of the largest data center concentrations in the country.
Aligned Data Centers purchased land in Pataskala in 2023 and filed an application in November 2025 to begin the zoning review process for a proposed 200 megawatt, three building site. Pataskala City Council voted 7-0 on August 25, 2026 to accept the planning board's recommendation and reject the proposal; an Aligned executive said the company would reflect and regroup, though no resubmission has been reported. Pataskala voters will separately decide a November 3, 2026 ballot measure on data centers over 25 megawatts.

AEP Ohio distribution rate case (docket 25-0392-EL-AIR) takes about $1.22 a month off a typical bill, decided April 1, 2026. This is a minimum bill requirement for very large new customers, not a rate change for homes, but it exists specifically to keep data center grid costs off residential bills.
AEP Ohio asked to raise electric distribution rates, which as filed would have added about 3.95 dollars a month, or 2.14 percent, for a typical household using 1000 kWh. PUCO instead approved a settlement on April 1, 2026 that lowers the typical residential bill by about 1.22 dollars a month and sets AEP Ohio's allowed return on equity at 9.84 percent. The settlement also creates a minimum monthly charge specifically for new data center customers, building on PUCO's earlier data center tariff order.
