King George supervisors approved a rezoning in February 2026 for 13 data center buildings totaling 6.5 million square feet on about 300 acres at Kings Highway and Bloomsbury Road.
King George supervisors unanimously approved Dahlgren West, the county's first data center project, a 485-acre campus on the north side of Route 301 planned for ten two-story buildings up to 70 feet tall.
Amazon Data Services planned a large campus of up to 19 buildings and 7.5 million square feet on the former Birchwood Power Plant site. The project remains stalled by the circuit court dispute over the original performance agreement, with trial dates now set for September 28-29, 2026. Separately, Amazon has withdrawn its application to renew a state permit that would have let it pump up to 6.4 million gallons of groundwater a year from the Potomac aquifer for non-cooling uses, after Senator Richard Stuart urged the Department of Environmental Quality to deny it, citing a state report finding little remaining aquifer capacity; Amazon says it will pursue alternate water sources as advised by DEQ.
