Data centers in Nevada

NV Energy's 2026 Integrated Resource Plan and four related large load dockets, opened May 27, 2026, seek approval of large load energy supply agreements tied to data centers including AWS, Prologis, Novva and Fleet, with a specific Sierra Pacific Power application for an Amazon Data Services facility in Sparks, Nevada. On August 14, 2026 the PUCN denied a request for a dedicated public session on the data center driven resource plan, drawing criticism from clean energy advocates; no hearing date has been reported for these dockets.

NV Energy filed a Deferred Energy Accounting Adjustment covering 2025 fuel and purchased power costs, with a PUCN evidentiary hearing held August 24, 2026 in Las Vegas; no decision had been issued as of this report. Separately, NV Energy filed a new rate request around August 19, 2026 that would lower Southern Nevada electric rates and raise natural gas rates effective October 1, 2026 if approved, though reporting on the dollar impact is inconsistent and it is not confirmed whether this is the same proceeding tracked here.

NV Energy's northern utility asked to nearly triple the fixed monthly basic service charge from 16.50 to 45.30 dollars. Regulators rejected most of that and approved 18.50 dollars, a 2 dollar increase, citing gradualism, effective October 2024.

NV Energy's southern utility asked for a 9.96 percent typical residential increase, about 14.91 dollars a month. Regulators cut the total revenue request by roughly a third in September 2025 but did not publish a clean approved residential figure, and also approved the nation's first mandatory residential demand charge, which began around April 2026.
